Carignan, which is originated in Spain, is widely grown in the south of France.
With the spread of the disease phlloxera, this grape variety was brought to
Turkey. The skin is bluish-black and thick, the berries are round; wine produced
from this variety is deep in colour, potentially high in acidity and tannin. It
is mostly preferred for the production of blend wines. These grapes are grown in
the clayish, sandy, pebbly soil near Izmir where there is a mild Aegean climate.
Carignan grapes are grown in Kavaklıdere’s Aegean-Pendore Vineyards.
Carignan is used in the blend of Vin-art Carignan-Alicante, Yakut and Angora Red.
